Budrys: 35 years ago, Iceland became the first country to recognize Lithuania's independence
Vilnius, February 11 (Hibya) - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys released a message of thanks on the 35th anniversary of Iceland being the first country to recognize Lithuania's restored independence.
Foreign Minister Budrys made a statement on the 35th anniversary of Iceland recognizing Lithuania's restored independence.
Budrys stated, "Thirty-five years ago, Iceland took a bold step to become the first country in the world to recognize Lithuania's regained independence."
Despite being a small country, Iceland demonstrated significant political and moral leadership, according to Budrys, adding that this step served as an example to other countries to support Lithuania's goal of returning to the family of free nations.
Budrys also noted that the people of Lithuania will always remember Iceland's role in their journey to freedom, and concluded his message with the words: "Thank you, Iceland!"
