Dollar index falls below 100 level in global markets
New York, April 1 (Hibya) - In late Tuesday trading, the US dollar weakened against other currencies, while the index measuring its strength fell below the psychological threshold.
According to CCTV, the dollar index, which measures its value against six major currencies, fell by 0.54% to 99.965 at 19:00 GMT.
According to official data, at the end of the New York session, the euro rose from 1.1457 to 1.1523 dollars. The British pound also edged up slightly from 1.3186 to 1.3189 dollars.
The US dollar also weakened against Asian currencies; it declined against the Japanese yen from 159.58 to 158.95 and against the Swedish krona from 9.5556 to 9.4895.
In contrast, the US dollar showed slight gains against the Swiss franc (from 0.8 to 0.8008) and the Canadian dollar (from 1.3926 to 1.3937).
