Israel criticizes UN Secretary-General over Hezbollah
Jerusalem, April 15 (Hibya) – Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, arguing that the UN has failed to disarm Hezbollah and implement Security Council resolutions.
In a statement by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was said: “Equating a sovereign UN member state with a jihadist terrorist organization is yet another proof of the UN Secretary-General’s failure.” The statement also claimed that the United Nations has not taken effective steps to disarm Hezbollah.
The statement added: “The UN has failed to disarm Hezbollah and has also failed to implement its own Security Council Resolution 1701.” It was claimed that Hezbollah poses a threat to both Israel and Lebanon and acts as a proxy force supported by Iran.
The statement further said: “UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres must stand firmly behind genuine Israel–Lebanon peace efforts and should not provide excuses for Hezbollah.”
