Israel issues diplomatic response to Italy over antisemitism and cultural events
Jerusalem, April 28 (Hibya) – Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a diplomatic initiative toward Italy due to antisemitic incidents during the April 25 march in Milan and decisions related to the Venice Biennale. Tel Aviv stated that it expects stronger steps from Rome.
Following the Foreign Minister’s instructions, Israel contacted Italy through the Head of the Public Diplomacy Directorate, Naor Gilon, who reached out to Luca Ferrari.
During the meeting, Israel expressed its “serious concerns” regarding antisemitic incidents reported during the April 25 march in Milan. The Israeli side argued that these incidents are part of a broader rising trend of antisemitism and called on the Italian government to take more decisive measures.
In addition, “disappointment” was voiced over the politicization of Israel’s participation in the Venice Biennale and its exclusion from awards due to jury decisions. Israel stated that such actions are unacceptable and expects Italy to adopt a clear and firm stance.
