Kristersson: Sweden stands behind our allies
Stockholm, February 28 (Hibya) - Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that Sweden stands behind its allies, called for restraint, and emphasized the need to protect civilians and respect international law.
Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson noted that the serious developments in Iran have spread to many neighboring countries, and added that Sweden, together with the EU, has already imposed sanctions against the regime.
Kristersson expressed solidarity with the brave people of Iran, stressing that their rights must be respected.
Kristersson stated that the Iranian regime has killed thousands of its own citizens and said:
“Sweden knows better than many countries what the Iranian regime is willing to do to innocent people from other countries. It is in Sweden’s and Europe’s interest that Iran never develop nuclear weapons. Iran’s nuclear program and its support for terrorist groups have long been destabilizing factors.”
Kristersson emphasized that Sweden stands behind its allies, adding: “We call for restraint, demand the protection of civilians, and full respect for international law. It is strongly urged that Swedes in the region follow the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are closely monitoring how Sweden's security is affected, and I will convene the National Security Council to discuss the impact on Sweden and the security of Swedes.”
