Lahbib condemns the attack in Ethiopia
Brussels, 29 November (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib condemned the armed attack in Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz region, in which 50 civilians were killed; she described the targeting of health facilities as a violation of international law.
Lahbib announced that 50 civilians were killed in the attack carried out by an armed group in the Benishangul-Gumuz region.
She added that an EU-funded health center was also severely damaged during the attack and strongly condemned such actions. The Commissioner stated: “Targeting civilians and health facilities is strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law.”
Lahbib called for the immediate cessation of such attacks and the protection of civilians, emphasizing that the international community must assume responsibility for ensuring security in Ethiopia.
