Macron: A rapid agreement between the U.S. and Iran is essential
Paris, May 31 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron stated during talks with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt that a rapid agreement between the United States (U.S.) and Iran is essential.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he had spoken with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Macron said he delivered the same message to all the leaders he spoke with: "A rapid agreement between the United States and Iran is essential. This opportunity must be seized now. The priority should be achieving a ceasefire without any preconditions and in accordance with international law, as well as the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz."
Pointing out that the process should continue after a ceasefire and the reopening of the strait, Macron stated: "Following that, negotiations should continue in order to reach a comprehensive and robust agreement, particularly on nuclear and ballistic missile programs and regional stability."
Regarding France's role in the process, Macron said: "France is ready to fully play its part by helping restore maritime traffic through the independent multinational mission established with the United Kingdom, supporting nuclear negotiations with its expertise and capabilities, and contributing to the establishment of a regional security framework together with partners it has helped preserve in recent months."
