French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation with Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Shara.

Macron emphasized the importance of preventing the recurrence of violence and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable, stating, "Especially concerning the violence in coastal areas, a judicial process is expected based on a report from an independent commission."

President Macron stressed that the ceasefire in Sweida is a positive sign and said:

"I discussed with the Syrian President the urgency of finding a political solution within a national governance and security framework involving local actors. Similarly, it is vital that the negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian authorities proceed in good faith. The trilateral talks yesterday made it possible to define the next steps of this process."
