More than a thousand people evacuated after landslide in Sicily’s Niscemi
Rome, January 27 (Hibya) – More than 1,000 people were evacuated from the Sicilian town of Niscemi after a four-kilometer section of cliff collapsed following heavy rainfall brought by Storm Harry.
No deaths or injuries were reported following the landslide that occurred on Sunday.
The mayor of Niscemi said the landslide is continuing due to the rainfall that has soaked the region in recent days.
Footage recorded on Monday by the Local Team video agency showed a narrow vertical section of the cliff collapsing, causing further destruction to an already damaged building.

Schools were closed on Monday, and geological studies have been ongoing since Sunday evening.
Regional president Renato Schifani estimated the cost of the damage, including that caused by the Niscemi landslide, at more than 1.5 billion euros.
