Netanyahu criticizes former Shin Bet chief Bar over statement on night of October 7
Jerusalem, October 14 (Hibya) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, saying Bar had stated that he did not call him before the October 7 attacks and did not have his phone number. Netanyahu argued that Bar could have reached him through his dedicated red phone line.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said former head of Israel’s domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, had stated that although he saw warning signs on the night of October 7, he did not call Netanyahu and did not have his phone number.
Reacting to Bar’s statement, Netanyahu said, “Ronen Bar, who saw the warning signs on the night of October 7 but did not call me, says today that he did not have my phone number. Ronen, are you serious?”
Netanyahu said Bar had access to his dedicated red phone line, adding, “You had my red phone number and could have called me immediately, just as all the other heads of the security agencies did.”
Netanyahu noted that Shin Bet security personnel accompany him 24 hours a day and argued that they too could have enabled Bar to reach him within minutes.
Netanyahu said in his statement, “If you had called in time, how many lives could we have saved?”
