Oil tanker hits mine and catches fire in Strait of Hormuz
Tehran, October 12 (Hibya) - Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that an oil tanker, reportedly operating with its navigation and positioning systems switched off, struck a naval mine and caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CCTV, the naval forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) released footage showing an explosion that occurred after an oil tanker struck a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC said the tanker, which was carrying crude oil, had disabled all its navigation systems and attempted to leave the strait via an unauthorized route. A major fire was reported to have broken out after the tanker struck the naval mine.
The IRGC announced that this was the third supertanker since Saturday to strike a mine and catch fire while passing through an unauthorized shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC also warned that all vessels switching off their navigation and positioning systems in the Strait of Hormuz would be regarded as hostile targets and would face "harsh and decisive" measures.
