Pilots’ fight triggers hijacking alarm on plane
Jerusalem, September 30 (Hibya) - Emergency and hijacking codes were activated on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv after the pilots got into a fight. Israeli fighter jets were scrambled, while the aircraft later landed in Saudi Arabia.
A hijacking alert was issued on a passenger plane operated by UAE-based Flydubai on a Dubai-Tel Aviv flight due to a fight between the pilots.
According to reports in the Israeli press, the aircraft, carrying around 100 Israeli citizens, first transmitted the "7700" code, indicating a general emergency, and then the "7500" code, indicating an aircraft hijacking situation, while flying over Jordanian airspace.
Following the signals, Israeli Air Force fighter jets were reportedly scrambled. The passenger aircraft was said to have circled for some time in Jordanian airspace before being diverted to Saudi Arabia, where it landed.
A spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said the incident was not a hijacking. Israeli media also reported that the hijacking alert had been triggered by a fight between the pilots.
