Plenkovic: The world needs the partnership we can build together with India
New Delhi, February 20 (Hibya) - Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic emphasized during a lecture at the University of Delhi that Croatia serves as a strategic link between Europe and India.
Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic addressed students at the University of Delhi with a lecture titled “Connecting Continents: Croatia and India in a Connected World.” Plenkovic stated that despite their geographical distance, Croatia and India share strong ties based on mutual respect for history, traditions and fundamental values, as well as openness to innovation and progress.
Noting that relations with India have developed within the framework of close and friendly ties established with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Plenkovic emphasized that cooperation is grounded in shared values such as democracy, pluralism and equality.
Plenkovic said that the new European geopolitical approach should be shaped on the basis of strategic connectivity, adding that Croatia plays a unique role as a gateway to Central Europe via the Mediterranean. He stated that thanks to modern ports, trans-European transport corridors and strong infrastructure, Croatia serves as a bridge between the European Union and India.
In this context, Plenkovic pointed out the strengthening connection between the Three Seas Initiative and the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), particularly noting that the Port of Rijeka is undergoing a comprehensive modernization and expansion process. He said the aim is for Rijeka to become the leading port of the Northern Adriatic and the main entry point for Indian goods destined for Central Europe.
From a European perspective, Plenkovic stated that India is not only a regional power but also a genuine global partner in the fields of technology, digital transformation and sustainable development, adding that the planned Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and India will further deepen economic ties.
Plenkovic concluded his speech by saying, “India and Europe need each other. More importantly, the world needs the partnership we can build together.”
