Qatar: Technical cooperation and capacity building are priorities in human rights
Geneva, October 5 (Hibya) - Qatar announced that it prioritizes technical cooperation and capacity building in its cooperation with the United Nations (UN) and human rights mechanisms. Qatar said all human rights should be given equal and priority importance.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansouri, Second Secretary at Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, outlined his country’s approach during the general discussion on technical assistance and capacity building held as part of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Al Mansouri said Qatar attaches significant priority to technical cooperation and capacity building in its cooperation with the UN and human rights mechanisms, particularly the Human Rights Council and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Al Mansouri said that, as part of Qatar’s strategic partnership with the UN and its various institutions, the country provides various forms of support that contribute to improving the human rights situation in different areas, adding that this partnership continues through the work of the Doha-based UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre.
Al Mansouri said the challenges facing many countries exceed their own capacities and stressed the importance of providing technical assistance and strengthening capacities so that countries can fulfill their human rights obligations. He said such support should be provided in consultation with the countries concerned and in line with their will, priorities, national characteristics and basic needs.
Emphasizing that Qatar gives equal and priority importance to all human rights, including political, civil, economic, social and cultural rights as well as the right to development, Al Mansouri said international cooperation should be strengthened through sharing good practices, transferring knowledge and benefiting from scientific and technological developments.
Al Mansouri also drew attention to the importance of supporting countries’ efforts to bridge the digital divide in order to strengthen the universality of human rights.
