Tokyo, July 1 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held comprehensive talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo.

Sybiha said he briefed the Japanese side on the latest developments in the war in Ukraine, long-range strikes against Russia, and ongoing peace efforts. He noted that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations amid the current global security environment.
The meeting highlighted that Japan's experience in reconstruction and post-disaster recovery is of great importance for Ukraine, while Ukraine's wartime experience also offers valuable lessons for Japan and regional security.
Sybiha also stated that Russia's attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra World Heritage Site was discussed during the meeting, adding that Japan expressed its intention to support the restoration of the historic site through UNESCO.
The talks also covered enhancing Ukraine-Japan security cooperation, particularly in unmanned systems and emerging technologies. The parties assessed the security risks posed to both Europe and Asia by military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
Sybiha thanked Japan for its financial, humanitarian, and technical assistance to Ukraine in areas including demining, healthcare, agriculture, and education, with total support exceeding $20 billion. The parties also signed a new scholarship agreement under the Japanese Development Scholarship (JDS) Program.
