Sybiha: Russia's attacks on energy infrastructure constitute crimes against humanity
Kyiv, October 26 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that the latest report by the United Nations Commission of Inquiry confirmed that Russia's systematic attacks on civilian energy infrastructure constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha claimed in a statement posted on his social media account that Russia, having failed to achieve its objectives on the battlefield, had targeted civilian residential areas and critical infrastructure in an attempt to break the Ukrainian people's resistance.
Sybiha stated that millions of people had been deprived of electricity, heating and water supplies as a result of the attacks, emphasizing that cold and darkness were being used as weapons of war.
Sybiha noted that the United Nations Commission of Inquiry's report also addressed the recruitment of foreign nationals for military service through deceptive methods, describing these practices as human trafficking. He argued that the report's findings revealed the extent of Russia's unlawful activities beyond Ukraine's borders.
Emphasizing that, with winter approaching and attacks continuing, the international community must increase pressure on Moscow, strengthen its support for Ukraine and ensure accountability for international crimes reportedly committed during Russia's attacks, Sybiha stated that a lasting and just peace would not be possible without justice.
