Trump: We are opening a pathway for ibogaine use in patients
Washington, April 18 (Hibya) – U.S. President Donald Trump announced reforms that will accelerate psychedelic drug research and expand access to treatment aimed at improving veterans’ mental health.
U.S. President Donald Trump provided information on medical innovations, reform processes related to veterans’ health, and ibogaine research.
Detailing the scope of the reform, Trump said: “We are announcing historic reforms that will significantly accelerate access to new medical research and treatments based on psychedelic drugs.”
Referring to veterans and scientific data, Trump stated: “Since September 11, we see that 21 times more veterans have died by suicide than those killed on the battlefield, and today we are bringing them new hope.”
Trump added: “In a 2024 Stanford University study, 30 special operations veterans with traumatic brain injury received ibogaine treatment and experienced an 80–90% reduction in depression and anxiety symptoms within one month.”
Speaking about financial investments and legal processes, Trump said: “Today, the federal government is investing $50 million in ibogaine research. We are also opening a pathway for the use of ibogaine in critically ill patients under the ‘Right to Try’ law.”
