Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna commented on his meeting with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže in Riga.

Tsahkna said that in addition to formal meetings, he and Braže also held informal talks and had the opportunity to try operating drones. He said, “Today in Riga, Baiba Braže and I had a lot to discuss, both in formal meetings and in more informal conversations. During that time, we also had the chance to try operating drones.”

Tsahkna said the talks focused on security, Russian aggression and developing connectivity in the region, adding, “Baltic ports should not help finance Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

Tsahkna said Estonia supported ending the transit of Russian grain through ports, adding, “Implementing this requires a joint Baltic effort.”

Tsahkna said sanctions against Russia should be strengthened and support for Ukraine should continue, stating, “We must continue strengthening sanctions, supporting Ukraine and working in close cooperation to counter Russia’s sabotage activities.”

Tsahkna said Estonia’s military aid to Ukraine would remain at no less than 0.25 percent of gross domestic product next year and announced that Estonia would host the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in January 2027.

Tsahkna said, “In January 2027, we will host the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference to provide urgently needed support during another winter of Russia’s war.”

Tsahkna also said completing the Rail Baltica project was a shared priority for security and competitiveness, adding, “Together with the future Tallinn-Helsinki tunnel, this project will bring the Nordic and Baltic countries even closer to the rest of Europe.”
