Tsahkna: Sanctions are affecting Russia, we must do more
Tallinn, January 28 (Hibya) – Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that Russia’s economy is under serious strain, stressing that the European Union’s (EU) 20th sanctions package must be implemented swiftly.
Estonian Foreign Minister Tsahkna stated that Russia’s economy is under severe pressure, saying: “Growth is stagnant, inflation is high, more than half of the national liquid wealth has been depleted, and oil and gas revenues fell by 22 percent last month, dropping to their lowest level since before the invasion.”
Noting that the current sanctions are effective, the minister said: “To deliver harder blows to the Russian economy, we must swiftly adopt the EU’s 20th sanctions package.” Tsahkna added that he will highlight this message at the European Union Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting to be held the following day.
