UN Security Council adopts Pakistan-proposed statement on diplomacy during active conflicts
Islamabad, November 5 (Hibya) - The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) unanimously adopted a presidential statement initiated by Pakistan titled "The Role of Diplomacy During Active Conflicts." The statement emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic initiatives even after conflicts have begun to secure ceasefires and develop lasting political solutions.
According to a statement from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UNSC unanimously adopted the presidential statement titled "The Role of Diplomacy During Active Conflicts," prepared at Pakistan's initiative.
The adoption of the statement was described as Pakistan's contribution to the Council's work on international peace and security. The text highlighted the need to maintain diplomatic engagement even after conflicts have begun, including mediation, good offices and keeping communication channels open.
Building on Resolution 2788, unanimously adopted in July 2025 during Pakistan's presidency of the UNSC, the statement emphasized that diplomatic efforts must continue throughout all stages of a conflict.
The statement was described as making an important contribution to the Council's work by bringing together lessons learned from different conflict situations and existing principles within a common thematic framework. It was also noted that the text establishes a shared political reference for the Council's efforts to de-escalate tensions, facilitate dialogue and advance peaceful, sustainable political solutions.
Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the adoption of the statement reflects the country's continued commitment to multilateralism, dialogue and diplomacy, as well as its constructive contribution to maintaining international peace and security.
