In a statement posted on X, Southern Command said, “On February 20, under the direction of #SOUTHCOM Commander General Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike against a vessel operated by an organization designated as a terrorist organization,” adding that no U.S. military personnel were harmed in the attack.

At least 138 people have been killed in strikes on suspected drug-smuggling vessels as part of Operation Southern Spear, which the Trump administration says aims to reduce drug trafficking.

Friday’s boat strike marked the sixth publicly announced strike of the year and the second this week. According to U.S. Southern Command, the U.S. military attacked three vessels allegedly engaged in drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific and the Caribbean on Tuesday, killing 11 people.
