Volker Türk: The Israeli government must repeal the discriminatory death penalty law
New York, May 5 (Hibya) - United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called on the Israeli government to repeal the death penalty law, criticizing the stance of an Israeli minister who glorifies executions and violence.
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk spoke about images from an event attended by an Israeli minister and the legal regulations being discussed in the country.
Criticizing the minister’s stance, Türk said, “I was disgusted by an Israeli minister glorifying violence by wearing an image of a noose on his lapel along with a birthday cake. Celebrating executions is abhorrent.”
Expressing his expectations regarding legal arrangements, Volker Türk stated, “The Israeli government must urgently repeal the discriminatory death penalty law.”
