Von der Leyen: We are strengthening our eastern border regions
Brussels, 18 February (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen drew attention to the challenges faced by border regions with Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, stating that with the Eastern border regions strategy they aim to increase security, growth and prosperity.
European Commission President von der Leyen made a statement regarding Europe’s eastern regions, which face numerous challenges ranging from hybrid threats to demographic pressures and economic impacts.
“We must support our eastern regions and show our solidarity with them. Because our security is directly linked to their strength, resilience and stability,” von der Leyen said.
Stating that with the Eastern border regions strategy announced today they aim to strengthen the security of these regions while also increasing regional growth and prosperity, von der Leyen said, “We are taking these steps to protect those who protect us.”
