Zelenski: Russia attacked Odesa with more than 50 UAVs
Odesa, Jan. 27 (Hibya) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski said that energy infrastructure and civilian areas were targeted in an intense Russian drone attack on Odesa, leaving many people injured.
Ukrainian President Zelenski announced that Russia carried out a large-scale UAV attack on the city of Odesa. He stated that more than 50 drones were used and that energy infrastructure and civilian facilities were among the main targets.
Zelenski said five apartment buildings were damaged, with serious destruction in flats and stairwells. According to preliminary reports, dozens of people, including children, were injured. He added that all emergency services are operating in the area and that search-and-rescue efforts will continue until any possible people trapped under the rubble are reached. It was also reported that one Russian drone struck a place of worship belonging to Evangelical Christians.
Zelenski noted that the regions of Lviv, Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv were also under attack overnight, saying Russia targeted energy facilities and critical infrastructure. Injuries were reported in these attacks as well. In total, 165 attack drones were launched against Ukraine, around 100 of which were of the “Shahed” type.
Stressing that every Russian attack undermines diplomatic efforts, Zelenski called on the United States, Europe and other partners not to remain silent. He said real peace is only possible by increasing pressure on Moscow, pointing to the importance of expanding sanctions and taking steps against Russia’s tanker fleet.
