Zelensky: Global regions should rely more on their own security
Kyiv, April 17 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for global security and regional responsibility during a virtual meeting on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In his address to the virtual meeting on Freedom of Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that key regions around the world should rely more on their own security capacities.
Zelensky drew attention to the importance of preserving safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that threats in this area have not only regional but also global consequences.
Pointing out that Europe, the Middle East and Gulf countries, as well as critical regions in Asia, along with Canada, Australia and New Zealand, should increase their own security responsibilities, Zelensky underlined the importance of international cooperation.
Zelensky also stated that pressure on Russia must continue and defense capacity against ballistic threats must be strengthened, thanking the countries supporting Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to the countries providing air defense systems and military support.
In his speech, Zelensky stressed that decisions to be taken regarding the Strait of Hormuz could also set a precedent for other critical maritime passages, emphasizing that the international community must act together.
