Volcanic ash cloud forces Indonesian airport to close
Stockholm, April 18 (Hibya) – Mount Ruang erupted in Indonesia on Tuesday, sending a column of ash more than 1.6 kilometers high into the air, causing the closure of Indonesia's Sam Ratulangi International Airport.
The Indonesian Ministry of Transport announced that it was decided to close the airport because volcano ashes made flights unsafe.
The volcano is located 100 kilometres northeast of Sam Ratulangi International Airport, the country's closest international airport to the volcano. The airport began shutting down business as early as Wednesday evening local time.
Indonesia has raised its risk level to the highest due to a volcanic eruption, while authorities have warned that falling volcanic material could trigger a tsunami.
