Danila Chebrov, head of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated that strong but non-destructive aftershocks were expected following the major earthquake in Kamchatka.

On Wednesday, Kamchatka experienced its strongest earthquake since 1952. According to the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Geological Research Center, the earthquake had a magnitude of 8.7.

A tsunami warning was issued, and residents were advised to avoid dangerous coastal areas. The warning was lifted in the evening.

As a result of the quake, a wall of a kindergarten in Kamchatka collapsed, a woman was injured at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Airport, and no casualties or significant damage were reported in the Sakhalin region.
