Belgium shaken by nationwide strikes
Brussels, October 14 (Hibya) – As part of a nationwide strike against various reforms by the Belgian Federal Government, thousands are expected to take to the streets of Brussels today.
The day of action was declared by the ACV-CSC, FGTB-ABVV, and CGSLB-ACLVB unions. The unions denounce measures affecting pensions, social benefits, working conditions, job security, and wages.
As part of the nationwide strike against the Belgian Federal Government’s reforms, thousands of people will take to the streets of Brussels today.
According to the capital’s transport operator STIB-MIVB, serious disruptions are affecting metro, bus, and tram services in Brussels during the strike.
Due to the strike, there will be no passenger flights from Brussels South Charleroi Airport or Brussels Airport in Zaventem. All flights arriving in Charleroi have also been canceled.
Airlines will contact affected passengers directly to provide information about rebooking or refund options.
The airport warned that on October 14, travelers arriving at Brussels Airport may face longer waiting times at border control due to reduced staff numbers.
According to a spokesperson for the regional company Bruxelles Propreté, disruptions to waste management services, including garbage collection in Brussels, are “very likely” during the strike.
