Bomb threats targeting flights across Europe disrupt air traffic
Prague, November 7 (Hibya) – Bomb threats targeting commercial flights in several European countries prompted aviation security checks. Following threats involving numerous flights in Czechia, Italy, France and Portugal, inspections were launched on aircraft and at airports.
According to CCTV, new bomb threats targeting commercial flights across Europe on Friday caused disruptions to air travel and prompted security checks. Airport security units in various countries took action following the reports.
According to the Czech News Agency, nine aircraft scheduled to land at or depart from Prague Airport were targeted by bomb threats on Friday. No explosives were found during inspections of four incoming and five outgoing flights. Airport operations continued without significant disruption. A day earlier, four aircraft bound for Prague had received similar threats. Czech authorities are investigating possible links between the incidents and similar threats elsewhere in Europe.
In Italy, the control tower at Rome Fiumicino Airport received an anonymous telephone call claiming that explosives were on board a passenger aircraft traveling from Prague to Rome. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the aircraft was diverted to Venice, where it landed, and police teams began security inspections on board.
In France, four aircraft flying in the country's airspace were targeted by bomb threats. Three landed safely at Paris-Orly Airport, while one landed in Bordeaux. The French Prime Minister's Office reported that bomb disposal teams were inspecting the aircraft and that an investigation had been launched to identify the source of the threats.
Portuguese police also announced that they had received a bomb threat on Friday involving a Ryanair aircraft traveling from Lisbon to the Italian capital, Rome. No explosives were found during the security search of the aircraft.
The latest threats followed similar incidents in Europe on Tuesday and Thursday. On Thursday alone, more than 20 flights were affected by bomb threats. The threats reportedly involved flights connected to Italy, Spain, Czechia, Bulgaria and Finland, targeting aircraft operated by airlines including Ryanair, Wizz Air, LOT Polish Airlines and Aer Lingus.
On Tuesday, bomb threats targeting passenger aircraft were also reported in Poland, Spain, Bulgaria and Italy. Seven aircraft were affected, with some flights diverted to other airports and one airport temporarily closed.
