Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made a statement regarding the incident at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc.

Carney said, “The cowardly act that took place yesterday at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc is unacceptable. It has no place in this country. My thoughts are with everyone shaken and hurt by this vile display of hate.”

Carney noted that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be observed this week, saying that the day reminds Canadians of their shared responsibility to confront the devastating legacy of the residential school system and its ongoing consequences today.

Carney said, “Courageous Survivors shared the truth so that all Canadians could take on the work of reconciliation.”
