Colombian President Petro to meet with Trump
Washington, February 3 (Hibya) – Colombian President Gustavo Petro is traveling to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. This will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two following months of escalating tensions and heated rhetoric.
Venezuela, drug trafficking, oil, security, and U.S. attacks on drug-carrying vessels will be among the key topics on the agenda of the meeting to be held at the White House on Tuesday.
Although the two leaders displayed a cordial tone during a phone call following the U.S. military operation on January 3 aimed at capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Petro has since said he believes a military operation against Colombia is a “real threat.”
Trump, for his part, has previously said that a military operation in Colombia would be “a good idea.”
