UN Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Coordinator and Deputy Secretary-General Fletcher announced that cholera cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have started to rise again. Fletcher described the situation as "the worst outbreak in the last 25 years."

In a statement on his social media account, Fletcher said: "Cholera is on the rise again. Congo is experiencing the worst cholera outbreak in the last 25 years."

Fletcher mentioned that the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (UNCERF) quickly activated: "UNCERF rapidly distributed funds to enable partners to provide safe water, hygiene, and prevention efforts."

Fletcher added: "Early and coordinated action saves lives and reduces the strain on health systems."
