United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the consequences caused by these weapons continue to affect people and communities for generations.

Addressing the dangers of cluster munitions, Guterres said, "Cluster munitions indiscriminately kill and injure civilians. Their consequences haunt people and communities for generations."

In his appeal to countries, Guterres said, "Countries must strengthen their political commitments and increase resources to clear contaminated land and support survivors."

Guterres concluded his statement by saying, "Let us act decisively for a safer future."
