Guterres: Let us remember our shared humanity
New York, May 1 (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres called for peace, solidarity, and a sustainable world in his message marking Vesak Day.
In his statement for Vesak Day, Guterres recalled that Buddhists around the world commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha.
Guterres noted that this year Vesak coincides with a period of rising geopolitical tensions, divisions, and conflicts.
Emphasizing the need to draw inspiration from the teachings of the Buddha, Guterres called for remembering our “shared humanity” and building a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world for all.
