UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted that February 24 marks four years since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in breach of the UN Charter and international law. Guterres said, “This devastating war remains a stain on our collective conscience and continues to pose a threat to regional and international peace and security.”

Guterres stated that the longer the war continues, the more deadly it becomes, adding that civilians bear the burden of this conflict.

He also reiterated his call for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire as a first step toward a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.
