Intense diplomatic traffic from Ukraine with the EU and member states
Brussels, May 11 (Hibya) - The Ukrainian Foreign Minister discussed EU sanctions, defense support, energy security, and accelerating the accession process during meetings with Cyprus and Spain.
Sybiha evaluated support issues for Ukraine with Cyprus and Spain within the framework of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council and in bilateral contacts.
In his meeting with Constantinos Kombos, Sybiha thanked Cyprus for keeping Ukraine on the agenda during its presidency of the EU Council. He expressed satisfaction with the support for the 90 billion euro loan package for Ukraine and the process regarding the 20th sanctions package against Russia.
The meeting also addressed strengthening Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before winter, increasing defense capacity, and continuing the reform process despite wartime conditions. The Ukrainian side reiterated its goal of opening all negotiation chapters in the EU accession process.
In his meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares, Sybiha conveyed the latest situation on the front line and the security risks caused by Russia’s attacks.
The meeting discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capacity, cooperation in the defense industry, and joint production projects. Coordination on further tightening EU sanctions and increasing pressure on Russia was also emphasized.
The Ukrainian side reiterated its call to accelerate the accession process, stating that integration with the EU is a strategic investment for Europe’s security.
