Iran: US must compensate for damages to restart talks
Stockholm, July 31 (Hibya) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the US must guarantee it will not repeat its attack on Iran and must compensate for the damages caused, as part of the conditions to resume talks.
Araghchi said that Iran will not accept to “go back to business as usual.”
The Foreign Minister stated, “They must explain why they attacked us in the middle of the negotiations and guarantee it will not happen again… And they must compensate for the damage.”
Iran and the US held five rounds of close negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, mediated by Oman. A sixth round was scheduled for June 15, but did not occur due to a military conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
The main reason for the military operation against Iran was the allegation that the Islamic Republic was developing a secret military nuclear program.
Therefore, during the conflict, Iran’s nuclear facilities became the primary targets of airstrikes, first by Israel and then by the US.
Iran strongly opposes the US demand to "reset" uranium enrichment. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry official Ismail Baghaei, Tehran is not currently planning talks with Washington. Iran believes that conditions for a new round of consultations are not yet mature.
