Israeli Foreign Ministry: Hamas is extorting civilians in Gaza
Tel Aviv, October 19 (Hibya) - Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs alleged that Hamas is demanding 10,000 Israeli shekels per truck from merchants in Gaza and threatening those who refuse to pay.
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, citing information provided by the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), that Hamas had threatened merchants who refused to pay and that the son of one merchant had been detained.
The statement alleged that merchants had suspended coordination of truck shipments because of the threats, accusing Hamas of obstructing the supply of goods to Gaza in order to finance its own activities.
