Joint effort against real estate fraud in Sofia
Sofia, July 23 (Hibya) – The Sofia Police Directorate, the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Bulgarian Chamber of Notaries, and the Sofia Municipality have launched a joint initiative to strengthen interagency coordination aimed at preventing real estate fraud.
During the meeting, participants discussed the early detection of suspicious real estate transactions, accelerating information sharing among notaries, police, prosecutors, and municipalities, and establishing a joint response mechanism.
Sofia Police Director Chief Commissioner Nikolay Peltekov said that the timely sharing of information regarding properties, applicants, legal representatives, and submitted documents would enable law enforcement authorities to respond more quickly to fraud attempts.
The meeting also proposed conducting more comprehensive reviews of municipal records, identifying risk indicators, preparing standard application and reporting forms, and establishing procedures to ensure rapid communication between institutions.
Participants agreed that preventive measures to protect property rights, regular information sharing, and interagency cooperation are the most effective means of combating real estate fraud.
