Kallas: Gaza continues to need urgent assistance
Brussels, February 2 (Hibya) – European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said that the reopening of the Rafah Border Crossing constitutes a concrete step in the peace process.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas made a statement regarding the latest situation at the Rafah Border Crossing and the ceasefire process in the region.
Emphasizing the humanitarian dimension of the crossing and the EU’s role, Kallas said: “The opening of the Rafah Border Crossing represents a concrete and positive step in the peace plan. The EU’s civilian mission is on the ground to monitor border crossings and support Palestinian border guards.”
Kallas added: “For the sick and wounded in Gaza, this reopening is a lifeline. It will allow families that have been separated for a very long time to reunite.”
Speaking about the continuity of the process and Gaza’s future, Kallas concluded: “Such practical steps help advance the ceasefire plan and must continue. At the same time, Gaza continues to need urgent assistance. Its reconstruction will depend on the disarmament of Hamas.”
