Tsahkna: Peace, freedom and security are responsibilities
Tallinn, February 2 (Hibya) – In a statement marking the 106th anniversary of the signing of the Tartu Peace Treaty, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that peace, freedom and security are not given achievements, but responsibilities that must be protected and passed on to future generations.
Tsahkna stated that the Tartu Peace Treaty serves as Estonia’s “birth certificate,” representing the international confirmation of the Estonian people’s will for freedom and independence and forming the fundamental pillar of the state.
He noted that the same principle is being tested today, as Ukraine defends its right to independence against Russian aggression. Tsahkna added that lasting peace in Europe is only possible if it is built on justice and accountability.
