Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the operation carried out in the Jenin camp, congratulated the units that took part and outlined the results of the security strategy being pursued in the region.

Sharing details of the operation, Katz said, “I congratulate the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the General Security Service and the Israel Police on their success in the operation to neutralize the Hamas commander in the Jenin camp and other terrorists with a precise airstrike.”

Referring to the latest situation in the region and the military presence, Katz said, “The camp he commanded was evacuated of its residents, occupied by the IDF and cleared of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure. As in other terrorist camps in Judea and Samaria, the IDF has been permanently deployed here, and he himself was pursued until he was located and neutralized.”

Emphasizing the security policy being implemented and its effects, Katz said, “These are the fruits of the aggressive and proactive policy we are pursuing in Judea and Samaria: We do not wait for terrorism — we pursue it, capture its strongholds and thwart its operatives. This policy has led to an 80 percent reduction in terrorist activity.”

Katz concluded his statement by saying, “We will continue to strongly and proactively thwart any threat against Israeli citizens — wherever it may be.”
