Kristersson: The 2015 migration crisis must not happen again
Stockholm, August 1 (Hibya) – Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said he expects Spain to take the necessary measures to protect Europe's external borders.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that protecting the European Union's external borders is a shared responsibility of all member states.
Kristersson said that together with 22 European countries, they had sent a joint letter to the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, and Ireland, which currently holds the rotating presidency. "What happened in 2015 must not happen again. We expect the Spanish government to take the necessary and concrete steps to protect Europe's external borders," he said.
Kristersson emphasized the importance of Spain making use of the tools provided by the European Union. "This issue concerns not only Spain but Europe's borders as a whole. We have seen what happens when borders are not protected. We must not allow the same situation to happen again," he added.
