Lahbib: Humanitarian workers must never be a target
Brussels, March 11 (Hibya) - European Union Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib condemned the drone attack on a residential building housing aid workers in the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and called for respect for international humanitarian law.
European Union Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib made a statement regarding the attack targeting humanitarian workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Providing information about the area and the target of the attack, Lahbib said, "In the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an unmanned aerial vehicle carried out an attack on a residential building where aid workers were living."
Reminding the parties to the conflict of their responsibilities, Lahbib stated, "All parties must comply with their commitments. Humanitarian workers must never be a target."
Emphasizing that the rules of international law must be protected, Lahbib said, "International humanitarian law must always be respected."
