Lula da Silva issues condolence message for Father Sergio Antonio Görgen
Brazil, February 3 (Hibya) – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva issued a condolence message for Father Sergio Antonio Görgen, who passed away at the age of 70.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made a statement regarding the passing of his close friend, Father Sergio Antonio Görgen.
Speaking about his personal bond with Father Sergio and the support he received from him, Lula da Silva said: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of my great friend Father Sergio Antonio Görgen at the age of 70. Father Sergio’s faith and wise words during his visits to Curitiba helped me overcome the difficult moments of the unjust prison sentence I endured, with strength and hope.”
Referring to Görgen’s social struggle, Lula da Silva stated: “He had an exemplary life story. His struggle to secure the rights of those who make their living from family farming, and the personal sacrifices he made—including hunger strikes—were his life’s story. Father Sérgio dedicated his life to fulfilling Jesus’ teaching, ‘Feed the hungry.’”
Concluding his statement with a farewell message, Lula da Silva said: “He fought for the nourishment of both body and soul. And he leaves this life having fulfilled a mission that will continue to be an example and a source of inspiration for all of us. Rest in peace, my friend.”
