Mixed performance in major indices: Borsa Istanbul outperforms as global markets decline
Istanbul, September 10 (Hibya) - While major indices in global markets generally followed a negative trend, Borsa Istanbul outperformed and ended the day higher.
The BIST 100 index ended the day up 0.70 percent at 14,505.48 points, while the BIST 50 index rose 0.79 percent to 13,225.61 points.
Selling pressure dominated in the US and other major markets. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones fell 0.77 percent to 52,380.66 points, the S&P 500 declined 0.48 percent to 7,636.36 points, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq dropped 0.64 percent to 26,253.34 points. The Russell 2000 index, which tracks small-cap companies, lost 1.28 percent to 2,922.35 points. The S&P 500 VIX volatility index climbed 4.71 percent to 16.46.
Other markets across the Americas also showed a selling trend. Canada's S&P/TSX index fell 0.60 percent to 35,906.56 points, Brazil's Bovespa index declined 0.93 percent to 185,629 points, and Mexico's S&P/BMV IPC index dropped 0.39 percent to 64,814.97 points.
