Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar attended the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir Ministerial Meeting held in New York as part of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar presented Pakistan’s position on Jammu and Kashmir at the meeting.

Dar thanked the OIC Secretary-General, members of the Contact Group, the OIC Special Envoy for Jammu and Kashmir and the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission for their support for the people of Kashmir.

The meeting discussed political and civil restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir, which Pakistan describes as “illegally occupied by India,” as well as attempts to alter the region’s demographic, political and cultural structure.

Dar maintained that the Jammu and Kashmir issue remains an international dispute on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.

Dar stated that no domestic legal arrangement, judicial decision, electoral process or demographic change could replace the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar called on OIC member states to maintain a common position on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations and other international platforms.

Dar also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a just and peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
