Portugal and the Sant'Egidio Community strengthen cooperation on peace and mediation
Lisbon, July 10 (Hibya) - Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel met with representatives of the Sant'Egidio Community and signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in conflict prevention, mediation and reconciliation.

According to the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Professor Andrea Riccardi, one of the founders of the Sant'Egidio Community, also attended the meeting. The memorandum aims to establish a regular cooperation mechanism between the parties, promote dialogue, and implement joint initiatives to strengthen respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.
During the meeting, the Sant'Egidio Community's international diplomatic and humanitarian work was highlighted. Its contributions to peace processes in Africa and its mediation role in achieving the General Peace Agreement in Mozambique were especially commended.
The parties emphasized that the signed Memorandum of Understanding would further strengthen their shared commitment to dialogue, peacebuilding, and international cooperation.
