Qatar participated in the high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) held in New York.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, with Qatar represented by Sheikha Hanoof bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sheikha Hanoof said Qatar’s support for the Alliance of Civilizations and its role in promoting dialogue, understanding and mutual respect continues.

Drawing attention to the spread of hate speech, racism, Islamophobia and other forms of intolerance around the world, Sheikha Hanoof reiterated Qatar’s support for United Nations General Assembly Resolution 76/254, which designated March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

Sheikha Hanoof said multilateral cooperation should be strengthened in combating hate speech and intolerance, highlighting the importance of using the digital space for this purpose and ensuring that technology supports greater closeness among societies rather than deepening divisions.

Stating that dialogue and sustainable development are closely interconnected, Sheikha Hanoof said investment in education, youth, and economic and social opportunities is necessary to build more peaceful and resilient societies.

Sheikha Hanoof said these priorities are also reflected in Qatar’s 2023-2027 Alliance of Civilizations plan, noting that the plan focuses on education, youth, media, women and migration.

Sheikha Hanoof said Qatar would continue to support the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and continue its efforts to turn dialogue into concrete action.
