In Australia, the ASX 200 index fell by 1.31 percent to 8,670.90 points. In Japan, the Nikkei index was trading at 67,746.13 points, down 1.38 percent.
In India, the Nifty 50 index slipped 0.04 percent to 23,395.75 points, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dropped 1.39 percent to 25,276.02 points.
China’s Shanghai Composite Index also declined by 0.43 percent to 4,066.56 points.
As a result, a generally negative sentiment prevailed across Asia’s leading equity markets during the first part of the trading day.
